What They Are

Small Red Spots Made of Blood Vessels

A cherry angioma, also called a Campbell de Morgan spot, is a benign growth of tiny dilated blood vessels just under the skin surface. Genetics and aging drive them, so most people see the first few after 30 and more each decade.

They do not fade on their own. Patients usually want them gone because they show on the face or chest, or because a raised spot bleeds when a razor or strap catches it.

Check First

When a Red Spot Needs a Closer Look

Not every red bump is a cherry angioma, and a few look-alikes need medical care rather than a cosmetic laser. Our consultation starts with a careful look at each spot, and we only treat what is appropriate.

Have It Checked If a Spot

  • Changes size, shape or color quickly
  • Bleeds without being scratched or bumped
  • Looks different from your other spots
  • Has a rough, scaly or crusted surface

If We Are Unsure

We do not laser a spot we cannot confidently call a cherry angioma. We tell you what we see and suggest a check with your doctor first, and clear spots can still be treated that day.

The Technology

How the Aerolase Neo Elite Works

The Aerolase Neo delivers very short, precise laser pulses. On the Neo Elite setting, the blood inside the angioma absorbs that energy, the vessel seals and the spot fades as your body clears it.

We use the same Aerolase platform for spider veins, so one device covers every vascular spot in your plan.

Laser Compared With Other Removal Methods

Four methods remove cherry angiomas. Each destroys the cluster of vessels; they differ in how they reach it.

FAQ

Cherry Angioma Questions

How much does cherry angioma removal cost in Portland, OR?

Pricing depends on the number and size of your spots. We quote it at a free consultation, and our current menu is on the medspa pricing page.

Are cherry angiomas dangerous?

They are benign and usually harmless. A spot that changes, bleeds on its own or looks unusual should be checked by a medical provider first.

Why am I suddenly getting more cherry angiomas?

New spots appear gradually with age, and a family tendency plays a part. A sudden crop of many new spots is worth raising with your primary care provider.

Do cherry angiomas mean liver problems or high estrogen?

Cherry angiomas are not a recognized sign of either. Liver disease and high estrogen are linked to spider angiomas, a different spot with fine red lines radiating from a center, and we will tell you if we see those.

How many sessions will I need, and will the spots come back?

Small spots often clear in one session; larger ones can need more. A treated spot usually stays gone, though new ones can form with age.
